Does anyone know offhand roughly how much a 1098 gearbox weighs without oil?

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

I'd say it varies: When carrying it whilst standing up it's quite light. Whilst lying underneath the car and trying to lift it up, it mysteriously gains a good few pounds

It gains at least a stone when trying to lift it off your chest for the fourth time!

I did two gearbox swaps in as many months due to a poor recon of the first replacement (very noisy). Each time I did it from under the car, what a mug. Never again, I'd swear buy the time box two went in, it weighed 200 Lbs. If there is a next time, the engine is coming out with the front off the car.
