There seem to be several different designs of wing mirror with varying lengths of stalks. While I used to be all door mirrors, having got used to the minor's wing mirrors - and the fact Rebecca has excellent ones; I now don't actually like door mirrors so much.
I quite like the fact that the mirrors are constantly in my field of vision; but then mine do seem to be better positioned and longer stalked than most (they're not van ones, which are longer still)
wing mirrors vs door mirrors

i have door mounted mirrors, in between the window and the quarterlight. they were very expensive, and they're almost completely hopeless. too far back to see without sitting back and up straight, no use at all!
the range of adjustment is really poor, i cant even get them to point in the right direction!

I've recently fitted some rectangular mirrors to mine as my 'lollipops' went missing one night. (kids, drunks, who knows??)
Anyway, these are very convex and give excellent vison of both the side of the car and the area behind me. No more 'rear arch' blindspot!
Those clamp on jobs just clamp to the metal door/window frame don't they?
