The front dampers have plenty of overtravel before the bolts take any strain - you can only come to that limit AFTER the inner wing panel has been smashed well up into the engine compartment.

In other words...just when you thought you were finished......
yeah but its nice to discover these things as it goes. and look at it optimistically, when its done its done for a good few years and because its done properly it wont be a major or beast of a job to do next time - coppergrease on threads / corrosion protection etc.
at this rate migth be able to start thinking about the cosmetics in ooh 3 or 4 years cause it sure wont be this winter :-?

Ah, I take it you are working outside? Not ideal to say the least. I have to admire people who have the patience to resto a car over such a long period of time.
