Check list

Post by Peetee »

Before I go back out there and start working under the bonnet in a totally random and haphazard manner can anyone point me to that check list for a car that fails to start after a layoff.
Fuel and starter are fine, it's just the ignition side of things I believe.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

Work methodically. First of all, inspect all components for any obvious visible faults (such as points closed up), then work back from the spark plugs- is there a spark there? if no, is there a spark between coil lead and dizzy cap? if yes, then cap, rotor, leads etc are suspect. If no spark, then the fault is the Low tension side- points, condensor, little LT lead or low tension connection to the coil or even faulty coil.

Other than that there is a detailled guide to diagnosing non- starting in the club members manual- have you got that to hand?
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

I think that there is a flowchart for fault finding in the members handbook thing with the contact numbers in.

Yep just gone and checked page 28, 29 and 30. in the 2007 booklet

This message board is like a family - you can't choose the other members!! But remember engine oil is thicker than water.
