MPG'S

Don’t know if this is an old thread or not, however I have recently finished the roses run and looking through the mileage log. I have worked out the mpg’s of George to be 44.62 mpg.
This is a good mpg for a cross-country run. Just wondered what kind of mpg other mogsters are getting????

44.62 is very decent indeed. My annual average works out at 39.9 MPG over 5,000 to 8,000 miles annual mileage. Mostly B road use, at or about 50 MPH. The most I have got out of the old girl was 46.8 MPG on the Peebles to Moffat run in 2003 the MMOCSB run.

I tend to accelerate quite hard so as not to hold up modern traffic, so I could probably get a wee bit more if I tried. I'm using cheepo Regular Unleaded, and have noticed a slight MPG improvment if I use Super Unleaded. Oddly enough, the Moggy seems to like JET fuel best of all

hi i have had about 45 out of mine,i have a engine thats only a year old and a new carb so thats bound to help.cruising at about 55mph i tend to use tesco super unleaded 99 oictaine

Yes, 45mph on a run is what I get from the traveller and high 30's (37-39mph) in typical commuting/general usage. These figures are what a healthy 1098 Minor should get with sensible driving style!

Those figures are simmilar to many small modern cars MPG!

I averaged 44.9 on this year's LEO run.

seems i did well I never added i use shell unleaded but add Millers lead substitute with octane boost as the head is not lead free.

I get a consistant 35 but thats all local stop-start driving.
I didnt really get any more than that with the 1098.

Always amazes me when people claim high 40s. They must pootle along at walking pace.

I haven't calculated it but I do seem to be using a fair bit more on the daily commute than on a long run.

Why not come on next year's AIR or LEO rally and see what MPG you manage when driving a few hundred miles a day in convoy...

I'm going to keep a check on my next 'long' trip.
I'll be driving up to cambridge next month, thats about 200 miles.

Other than that I've been to Bath and Bristol several times and the mileage is better - but i'm not convinced its that good, although thats only around 80 miles each way.

I managed 47mpg driving at 60mph+ from Midlands to John O'Groats on the LeOrk run this year... However as soon as I realised that, it became obvious why I was getting a missfire! <doh>
A few flats turn of the mixture screw and she was running fine again.

[My mileage isn't reading correctly due to wrong combination of speedo and diff, so I didn't know the MPG until I could calculate my mileage ratio with the other guys]

With my normal driving style I rarely get over 40mpg on a 1098. I used to get 42mpg when I was running a 948 on long jurneys at 60mph (using cheap supermarket unleaded)

Sounds very good. Our speedo was a bit iffy on the Roses Run, so diffcult to get true mileage reading. shouldnt imagine it was that good after crawling up a few hills in bottom gear in the 948cc...

Best ever was years ago when I had my van for my first car. Prior to that I'd been driving a Morris J van, so carried on for a while in the Minor at J van speeds, before realising it would go faster. Manchester to Chester on the flat M56 at 50mph realised a 51mpg.
That was in 1989. Never managed it since!
