I thought i would start this thread so that myself and others can post pics of the rally and anything else they would like to mention,i must say a big thanks also to the chaps selling spares, who helped me empty my wallet through the day,and to the various people who came over to have a chat, made my first rally a nice day!
on the way up i was passed by a lovely Jag:
For those interested i traced my running problem to a blocked inline fuel filter, after taking it out it ran perfect on the 80 mile trip back.
Picked up an engine while I was there and several books so am now trawling through them working out whats what.
Have sussed so far: 4 cyl eng 1st stroke down lets mix through inlet valve air+fuel (via carb), 2nd stroke up squishes it (tec. term), 3rd stroke blows it up (another tec term) with assistance of spark plug of course pushes down and 4th stroke up emits fumes / residue through exhaust - (Induction, Compression, Power & Exhaust strokes), it's slow progress but I have all winter and thanks to the midlands rally some useful books and a practical project to work on.
As you know from my blank and confused look at the rally its going to be a lengthy project learning whats what, but am determined to learn the basics.
Just a big thanks to the organisers of the Rally, my Wife and I really enjoyed it as it was our first rally with Exorset my 1961 2 door saloon, not much fun attending rallies in a Mondeo.
In case anyone is wondering why I called her Exorset, it is a tribute to my late Mother in Law and my nickname for her....Exorset...You know its on its way but there is bugger all you can do about it.
Must have been having a Senior moment,my wife has just looked at my last post and and pointed out that our car is called EXOCET not exorcet. Oh Um
Now she has that smug look on her face.
o it was you who broke down on the M6
i went in my rover 75 and was hurtling down the outside lane when i saw you i said to the missus i feel really guilty for not stopping but couldn't really reverse back 3 miles lol
yep that was me, stopped three times in all,it was taking more fuel out the carb than it could get in!has behaved very well since replacing the filter.i also saw a blue Minor who gave me a wave as they went past, made me feel a bit better!
