How do I connect up an Ammeter
Ive managed to find an old smiths 52mm Ammeter (30-0-30), which Id like to connect up on my Pickup. Question is I dont know how to connect it up. A friend commented that I should connect it up to the black regulator box at the top of the bulkhead, but which connections.
The Pickup is Positive earth and still has a dynamo.

Must go inline with the main feed wire from the starter solenoid - or pull switch - obviously not the main power cable from the battery - but the brown wire which joins it at the solenoid. Take great care to double - even treble - insulate the wires to the ammeter because by their nature they are unfused and can carry a very heavy current, easily enough to start a fire if they were to short against a rough edge where they pass through the bulkhead to the gauge.

Would I be right in thinking that one wire goes to the A terminal on the regulator and the other wire goes to the Heavy brown wire on the Starter solenoid. Would I have to disconnect the existing brown wire connections on both Terminal A and the solenoid, to achieve the appropiate "series connection" for the ammeter.

You effectively want to splice the ammeter into the middle of that thick brown wire (or replace it with the new wires).

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.
