Isle Of Wight MMOC Rally

Post by Jay-Minor »

Went to the Isle Of Wight MMOC branch rally the weekend, firstly I would like to say thanks to all concerned it was a great event, great venue (Haven Street Steam Railway) and they made us all feel welcome.
Not only was it a great weekend but “Mildred” was also honoured to be chosen as the “Chairman’s Choice” and came away with a trophy (well I guess there’s a first time for everything)

having been to many minor events inc the national and seeing concours moggies i would not even bother to enter mine as it's not a patch on the others, also i have made a few alterations which would not be concours such as temp gauge, cd player, towbar, servo, alternator etc.
and i'm not what you might call a trophy hunter i own moggies for the sheer pleasure but on this occasion it was nice to get one (i'm still in shock)

No problem Jay, my only comment would be that I don't think concours entrants enter simply for the trophy

sorry judge that did'nt come as i meant it to, no disrespect to concours owners intended, having seen the work that goes into their cars i would not have the heart to drive it on the road after spending all those hours in prep, i have the view that any moggy that's on the road (with an MOT) is a good moggy :D

No apology needed Jay, as you may have seen from some of my previous postings, my views on this are very similar to your own.

My only concern now, having reluctantly resigned as Chief Concours Judge, is that the respect that MMOC Concours has earned within classic car circles may be lost by any dilution of the rules that have been the basis of this success. Competition must be exactly that, and I personally feel that to reduce the strict criteria currently in place for judging concours cars, will only lead to reduced standards, and also credibility within the classic car movement.

It was the trailer that carried of the prize- great! I wonder if anyone has ever made a Trav-Trailer!

This was the first rally I have camped at and my family and I thoroughly enjoyed the friendly atmosphere.

I have tried to post some photos, but not sure its worked.

Thanks for the kind words guys, I will let the rest of the IOWMMOC know. I very briefly attended for an hour, but was otherwise engaged as my daughter had only been born the Friday before the rally. That is why my truck wasn't there.

We do try and create a relaxed atmosphere, mind you it is helped by the lack of condition class judging - which always causes a bit of hassle and arguments.

We are proposing the same again next year, hope you agree?

I've seen the trav trailer at I think the sandringham rally... Looked nice, do it didn't arf flex about going across the bumpy field. Don't forget that we can tow upto about 600kgs behind a minor, and all that wood must make a big dent in that.......

Have a go, have some fun, but make sure its braced well!!!

Well a trav about 800kgs unladen, by the time you remove the front end, doors, glass, mechanicals etc which all weigh a lot!
