No, it's not a Mini. The official BMC workshop manual is the one to get. You can often find them on eBay either in original paper or electronic (scanned) form.

Hang on I think the Mini was called the MINI MINOR for a while. and 850 is the right engine for a mini. My guess is that they want a mini manual.

This message board is like a family - you can't choose the other members!! But remember engine oil is thicker than water.

Good point, there was a Morris Mini Minor. The year is wrong though - the first Mini wasn't until 1959. A 1955 Morris Minor would have had an 803cc engine.

More than likely an 803 but on the log book as 850 due to the computerisation of the DVLA. Anyway PM sent Snowy.

Another, but probably not in this case, option is it's had a transplant of a late A35 van engine - which was 850cc and will bolt straight into a Minor.

This for my other half's dad. He lives in New Zealand now, and is after this for a friend of his. Have got disc version of the workshop manual, and will see if this is any good for him. will try and clear up the mystery... cheers for all the comments guys

They are all near enough the same - so any manual will do. But he doesn't really need one anyway - just tell him to dial up here and all will be answered, including pictures and diagrams from the manuals where required. There is always someone 'on duty'.
