Post by jonathon »

So, were all busy with our projects, either building or driving.
How about telling us all, what your projects are, or how much you enjoy driving them, road or track.
Any unusual choices of running gear or engines, chassis or body mods etc. :D

Nice choice of engine Scot, small cc but good power should suit a Sierra box well given the correct choice of rear diff ratio. Escort axle easier to fit unless you need the extra width. What about handling and brakes?.
You will have to post info in the projects section of the M and C section of the site also give Jon Betts at Minor Monthly a call as he is very interested to feature 'jobs in progress', it will also act as inspiration to others. Good luck :D

1966 Convertible;-

Space-frame chassis,
Ford running gear,
Rover 3.9 V8 with 5-speed Rover 'box,
Ally panelling

Brakes and clutch need bleeding, radiator and plumbing to fit, loom and electrics to sort plus I need seats and I need to make the front wings wider by 4 inches, apart from that.....that's it!!!!!

Then I can continue with my 1971 V8 Pick-up..............ho-hum! :D

Hopefully I'll be able to get started on my 67 4dr soon. Not hugely impressive modding wise, 1275 engine (either ital or maestro (if I can get the crank/flywheel sorted)) 5 speed serria box, and dolly back axle.

Got ital discs upfront anyway. Got a set of 15" maestro allys, but if I can get the dolly hubs converted to moggy I'll run standard van rims, and it will become a 'stealth-bomber'

Just need to clear the garage to get it in, and then hopefully I'll be able to get cracking with her. Would like to have her on the road for the joggle/overseas tour next year if poss. Some hope ;-}

1958 traveller, 12a mazda rotary engine with later model 13b inlet manifolds and turbocharger. 5 speed gearbox also from a mazda, custom prop shaft and an escort diff with 8inch drum brakes.
Front brakes are capri vented discs with rebuilt princes calipers. Also has a half cage that has been modified from a mkII escort.Oh and running a wolf 3d fully programmable ecu. The rear end has been turretted and am going to fit tele shocks on the front. Exhaust is 2.5 inch stainless with one muffler. Loads of other bits too i guess. Hope to haveit running by end of november and on the road next year.
cheers, michael.

1958 original convertible. 3 owners from new. Structurally restored 20 years ago and abandoned. I am fitting new brakes with Ford disc kit, 3.9 diff, toughened halfshafts, 1275 A+, Tele shocks, anti-roll bar, LP917 rims, Rover 200BRM leather seats, CD player.
I've owned and modded 4 other Minors. Hopefully this will be the car I always promised myself. :D
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

Hi,

I'm still working on my MM project - shell is away at the second media blasters to get done, as is the chassis. I took the engine to bits before I went on holiday to the states as I thought I would pick up rebuild components for it there (didn't as it turned out).
However, since coming back, I have had a change of mind, and am now buying a complete Chevrolet Corvette engine/box to replace the Ford Mustang engine, as I felt I would probably end up spending the same amount on a good rebuild. The Corvette engine gives around 305 - 350 bhp, and around 25 mpg in a Corvette (affordable motoring).
It just means that I will have to fabricate new engine mounts, and alter the already modified front of the minor to accept a different radiator - oh, plus the additional electrics that every modern engine has.
May get my enthusiasm back when engine arrives.

Pete

Hi,

I'm planning on taking some decent pics over the weekend of my current project.

Is anyone willing to host them and/or put them up here?

Thanks in advance for the help.

My current project is a lot more tame! (but at least I'm working on Minors again :D )
I'm converting the 71 pick-up front suspension to polybushes and tele dampers. Following that will be 1275 and Ford 5 speed box.

Just a Midget engine to overhaul for me but other problems elsewhere keep getting in the way so its going to be a while.

Nah - those are just the bits I've got left over from what I've accumuated for the '57' (2 litre twin cam, 50% uprated torsion bars, Mk1 Capri rear axle etc...)
The type 9 was bought for the saloon before I came across a Fiat engine and box.

I've just ripped the dash out of my Rover engined minor to investigate an intermittent short circuit - was going to redo it anyway (was pretty naff with in your face speakers - not fitted by me though, but they did work pretty good), but this has spurred me on. Found out however that it was the fuel gauge shorting out, so didn't really have to remove it - but it's out now. I'm also taking the opportunity to fit a heater (from an early mini - nice and small).
I'm going to replace the dash with wood - have to source a nice piece from somewhere.
Keep you posted.
