I'm a mapaholic, I collect them, but road maps don't have up to date plots of fixed radars
In answer to other posts, reading a map as you go along is more of a distraction than a quick listen/look at a screen

I'm a recent convert to Sat Nav in cars. I have had a walking type Garmin for years useful for places with no reference points, Ben Nevis in the fog and snow, walking the dog in thick woodland and finding the car at the NEC.
I have a smart phone now and have put route66 mapping on it I have a little bluetooth GPS it works really well in the Morris I just sit the reciever on the seat next to me and off we go. There are no brackets or kit to hide. When I arrive I put my phone in my pocket and the matchbox sized GPS reciever in the glove box out of sight.

This is high tech for me, probably old hat to some of you guys.

Roger.

I was intrigued by Sat Nav just as a techy geeky person, but having got it I really am also a convert. I also still carry a proper map and directions and usually a local area map for where I'm going; but most of the time I can just leave the Sat Nav to do its stuff.

Sadly my old TomTom's maps (the newest version that'll run on my iPaq) are rather out of date, but even still it's dead simple and I don't have to do the fun 'trying to read the map on the move' thing, or grabbing my directions to work out which junction I should be taking.

Mine's a bit home made (I've lost count of the number of times I've shown this adaptation :) ) but it's nicely positioned...

In my case, I just yank the iPaq out with me when I leave the car.
