Engine identification - help!

Post by moochypooch »

Hi, I have recently bought a 1969 Morris Minor 1000. The V5 says it's got a 1098cc engine, however I'm not so sure (primarily because 950 is stamped into the side of the block!). Having read the previous threads relating to engine numbers I am none the wiser since I can't seem to find a meaningful number on the engine. There is a plate riveted onto the top of the block at the front - it reads 8G9 R N22366. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's a 948 surely, if it has "950" on the side of the block?

Yeah, I would imagine so. However, I would still like to be able find the engine number for parts ordering and correcting the V5 etc.

The number on the plate rivetted on the front of teh block is the engine number - And for parts all you need to know is it's a 948. However, 1098 engines are pretty easy to come by and cheap, and thatr's what eh car should have - Might be worth getting one before messing with sorting the V5 details :)

OK, thanks for that. Getting a 1098 engine sounds like a good plan, this one I've got needs a rebore - so it'll save me bothering with it.
