mig welder advice please

hi moggy men , I have the chance to buy a powercraft no gas turbo fan cooled mig welder, 25 to 135amps, is it worth acquiring to do some welding on my moggy or should I look at some other make

Is the 'No Gas' an extra feature, or is it purely No Gas? and using flux cored wire all the time? If the later, I would go for a Mig Welder that can do Gas and Flux wire welding. No Gas is fine for hidden areas, but Gas Mig looks neater and you get less splatter. Other than that, the Amps are fine for general Moggy Welding.

hi moggy tech, it's on ebay and the advert says no gas needed. it only becomes live when the trigger is depressed

well i have a gas free mig and the welding has passed the mot but mine can be change to have gas if i wanted they are the better ones i pay 8.99 for 0.9 flux coated wire on ebay you can get a big reel for about 30 including postage and i replaced al the floor ,inner wings boot are ,sills inner and outter on my traveller annd it lasted all the way throw

I'd be interested in advice for a first mig - and think it will have to be a no gas as getting the gas would be tricky and no doubt at a premium.

I think that's only true if you're doing a lot of welding. I did a fair bit of welding on Fenchurch and only got through a handful of small disposables. It makes a difference whether you're using CO2 or a CO2/Argon mix too - the CO2 only cylinders last a lot longer but don't produce such a nice weld.

Apparently the cheapest method if you're prepared to use neat CO2 is to talk your local pub into renting you one of the cylinders they use for fizzy drinks dispensers.

I couldnt justify a big cylinder - good idea getting it from the pub though, the amount i'll be doing is hobby quantity only to learn the basics so no gas is the way to go.
