Just got to make a replacement bumpstop, then a few more coats of chassis black, and it can be reunited with the cab. Then the weldathon on the cab can commence. The chassis has had 3 coats of zinc paint, a good coating of stonechip, and then will have about 3 coats of chassis black on top of that. I'm not going to finish painting the top of the chassis rails until the cab and van body are welded up, as i'm sure i'll ruin the finish somewhere with grinder and welder.

Well done Dean.
I can see what's been done at the front - what was replaced at the rear?

I've had a quick look under my latest pickup whilst servicing her on Friday and the chassis is in fairly average nick with a few patches. I think it'll be a few years before it needs anything as drastic as a full strip down, but I'll worry about that as and when (hopefully not this year!)

What model Merc have yoy got / did you have? I'm about to put my W124 300D on the road.

Rear chassis legs replaced, front chassis legs replaced, everything else scratch built. just realised I haven't made the plates for the seatbelt mounts either. I have to say I cheated, and aquired another rotten chassis. Using the two, i've now got one solid one, still had loads of welding to do though.
I've got a '93, l reg, e250 diesel ( the 25 valve one), just run in at nearly 200k. the hubcaps are left over from when i replaced the wheels with a free set of genuine merc alloys i aquired. Its my daily run about and just passed its MOT needing 3 brake pipes.

Yes eventually, I bought 4 new tyres for them, then got the alloys free with decent tyres. The tyres are earmarked for the wifes Xantia, just haven't got round to changing them over yet, as I'm a bit brassic at the moment.

Have you put anything inside it?
Waxoyl or similar.
It should last forever then.
