Colour on chrome badges?

Post by Axolotl »

Should the "rough" background on the chrome bonnet crest "M" and the "Bull motif" (I Can't believe I said that), on the front of the bonnet be coloured?

This is a 1971 Traveller.

Were they coloured ex-works, or is that just an affectation by some owners?

If they should be coloured, what are the correct colours?
Cheers, Axolotl.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I am not sure you realize that what you read is not what I meant.

The majo suppliers show them like this,

The M flash bonnet handle is supplied plain, but my original has a coloured insert clipped in. So I guess it was coloured originally.

As to the colours I matched them off the photo with my dughters acrillic paints and the lacquered them to make them water proof.

Please refer to this thread on useful tips from a few years back.

It is an excellent match for the sparkly finish of the original enamel badges from the earlier models.

I painted my 'M' flash using a car touch-up pen. Colour was Ford Rosso Red as I had one lying around from an old Ford I owned.
Any overpaint can be scratched off with a fingernail so don't worry too much about neatness.
What would Macgyver do..?

I bought a couple of small pots of "Plasticote" enamel - looks good and still on a year later. Will check on the colours later.

You can get a very satisfactory effect with nail varnish!
