Depends on the pump, but most work best by being close to and preferably slightly below the washer bottle (which can go anywhere) as they are better at pushing rather than sucking.

agree with simmitc, when I bought my morris it had an electric pump fitted, it was put behind the speedo. it took several seconds of the pump being on before any water hit the screen. I moved it to near the bottle and now it works much better. its also less noisy in operation this way.

I imagined putting it close to the bottle would be easiest too, but what do you do with the 2 tubes on the old pump, simply join them together?
I imagine there would be a readily available connector to do this.

Not following you - surely you'd be using them after adapting with the new pump? I'm sure I'm being thick, btw

It's more likely to be me that's being thick.
I would imagine that the old push-pump is removed and a switch fitted to that hole for the electric pump.
Then the two tubes removed from the push-pump would be joined together, right?
I would have already cut the tube near to the bottle and located the electrical pump there, with one end of my newly-cut tube going to the bottle and the other end disappears through the bulkhead up to the washer jets....am I making sense?

Gotcha. It's years since I converted, I'll have a look tomorrow and post again, but you're making sense, I'd say

Yep, join to the pipes or run new tubing from the pump to the T-piece under the dash.
