Does anyone know what this is supposed to be as all the manuals i've looked in today don't seem to list it unless i'm missing something somewhere!

Taken from the workshopmanual:
" The cylinder headstuds should be tightened half a turn at a time, in the sequence shown in the illustration Fig. A.25, until they are all quite tight "

There is no torque setting in the workshopmanual.

Hope this helps

I have found in the workshop Manuel.
Cylinder head stud nuts 40 lb. ft (5,5 kg m)

The correct order of tightening the stud nuts is:

13 8 6 10

5 3 1 2 4

11 7 9 12

After tightening run the engine until it is properly warmed up, then tightens the cylinder head nuts again in the proper sequence.

I hope this help.

Greetings

Hi Wimor

Can you tell which workshopmanual you have found this torque in ??
I have 6 or 7 workshopmanuals for the sidevalve engine, and the all say: "Tighten until they are all quite tight "
I know the 40 lb ft / 5.5 kg.m is for the OHV engine.

Hi Svantemann,

Sorry I made a mistake. The manual edition is AKD 530 (14th edition).
The general data page of the manual does not makes a significant difference between USHM 2 and APHM engines. My appologies for the incorrect information.

The order of tighting etc. is correct.

If necesarry I can send you a digital copy of the manual. Please give me your e-mail address.

Greetings,

Hi Wimor

Maybee you have a manual I dont know about - I have seen some manuals in Australia which is not seen here in Europe.
Today I hope to meet some Morris cars from Holland to a Rally in Denmark :D

To Mike Perry:

Where do you find the Technical info ???
All I can find is Technial tips, but no info about tightening cylinderhead studs on sidevalve engine here.

I have a copy of the Australian manual that is only for the Series MM and there is no reference in there about cylinder head torque settings at all.

torque again

Post by Johnno »

Just had a look at a Scientific Magazines manual and the setting for series mm sidevalve engine head bolts is given as 43 3/4 lbs.ft.Odd or what? Now this is an Australian publication so could this be the reason for the 3/4s.All the best,John.

Johnno is right for the Aussie Scientific Workshop Manual .
I have a dedicated MM manual circa 1950 published by Scientific Magazines Publishing Company, Rockdale NSW This shows Cylinder head torque setting as 525 inch/pounds for the 10mm x 1.5 pitch stud.
These manuals come up on aussie ebay from time to time keep a look out.
