Lol.. yes that was only a week ago now that he mentioned a 'bit of play' on the advisory.
Whats even more ironic is I already had my online 'basket' full with the parts required to do top and bottom on both sides. I just didnt have the money (still dont to be fair).
I'm now driving the beetle. 1300ccs of Air Cooled crappy German-ness.
Makes the Minor feel (and drive) like a Rolls Royce in comparison.

Thats known as restoration! Comes with the territory of old cars, I'm afraid! After the machanics are done, cut out and replace all the rust and paint the car and it will be good for another 40+ years ;-)
Its not the amount of work thats getting me down - its the fact everything's chosen this particular time to break! Over the past few months I've spent silly amounts of money - and thats just on parts.
As quick as I can replace one piece another fails!
The only thing keeping me going is the knowledge (hope) that it will indeed be fine for another 40 years.
I had a similar experience in a Morris 1300 I had in the late '70's. I'd just come down from Perth, over the Forth Bridge (doing 70 almost all the way). Drove along the A8 near Edinburgh, took a left turn...doing about 5 mph....when K_RUNCH! the driver's side wheel folded under the car.
What an embarassment, felt a right plonker standing at the side of the road with a forlorn look...and wished I was driving one of those nice new Japanese motors instead.
