Door frames

Post by Onne »

I would like to know what finish the door frames should have on my late '50 Lowlight.

Chrome or painted? I was under the impression that they were Chrome, but had a look today, and it seems to be painted.

Car is export model btw, assembled in Holand by Molenaar of Amersfoort

I'm not sure, but my Jan 1950 MM (new toy got last weekend and registered today :P ) has painted door frames.

Are the door frames off later two door cars interchangeable? I noticed that on the back most pice of the frame seems to have a bit added so that it meets the door seal. I know the four door cars at least dont have this.

I have just bought a MM registered in Jan 1950 with painted frames and had the same question.

I have seen photos of MMs with chrome door frames.

My 1949 Tourer has chrome original style door frames (not modern stainless one's) but all the MM saloons i have had (6 over the years) have all had painted frames, so maybe the chrome was just for the tourer? :-?
I know they are chrome as it is all peeling and has had to be covered with tape to save people cutting their hands on the razor sharp edges!

Hi Onne

It depends of your cars chassisnumber.

Chassisnumber 31782 R.H.D. / 12324 L.H.D. and later:
Door surround / top painted instead of chrome

This is taken from my production information.

So if your car is a late 1950 model, it had the painted doortops from new.

My Serie MM LHD with Chassisnumber 9222 has chrome door tops, which is correct. My Serie MM LHD 1950 from June has painted doortops.
Both cars is UK made.

Ok, my car has a chassis number in the high 50,000s, and will have painted ones then!
Thank you very much Svantemann
