Traveller Wood Plans/Blueprints?

Hello all,

Wondering if there is anyone out there that can help a Hawaiian restore a Traveller. My father started disassembling the family 56 23 years ago, but unfortunately passed on shortly afterwards. We had one side of wood that was somewhat ok, and my Father wanted to use it as a pattern to remake them. Over time, bumble bees ravaged the remaining wood to nothing more than saw dust. By the time I came of age and was ready to start working on it, being that the car was in storage, the wood sides were all gone.

I plan to restore/mild hotrod the car, probably using a Fatman fabrications frame. My original plans were to Replace the wood with Metal and have someone wood grain it. But I am still considering getting wood for it. My biggest problem is the cost of the wood first, and the cost of shipping second. Being that it seems that the UK is the only place I can find replacement wood pieces, I am dreading the exchange rate and shipping costs. Living 1/2 way around the world from the UK complicated things. My question is there anyone that possibly has plans or blueprints on the wood sides? If I can purchase these from someone, it would really help me out.

I have seen these plan for sale before on e-bay and have heard wisperings of people in this club that ownthem so keep asking and posting and I guess if people get ot know youo they will share.

I am still in the planning stages of my buildup. I already acquired a set of front fenders off ebay for a song. I know that the wood will be much harder to get a hold of. I am just trying to finish up my 63 Nova so I can unearth my Traveler from the corner of my garage and start to assess what needs to be done. I am hoping that someone will be either willing to share a set of plans with me, or point me in the right direction to where I may purchase a set. currently shipping a new wood set isn't totally out of the question, but just a little further in the budget than i had originally planned.

Whatever happens - I urge you to keep with the wood - and NOT to go for metal with 'wood grain' !! Is it not perhaps possible to work from square-on pictures of a Traveller - and scale the necessary sizes from that to make your own drawings ? The wheels are 14" diameter - so that would give you a reference for the scaling.

Thanks for all the replies. The plans look tempting. My only problem is that due to issues with Paypal I elect not to use them. But I did send an email and possibly will use the buy it now for them.

Bmcecosse, the main reason I am considering getting it made of metal and wood graining it is I am not sure if the wood will handle 300+HP. I do plan to run a small block chevy motor in it, and do a mild hot rod. I would really like to keep the wood looks and it is probably lighter than metal, but using formed box tubing would probably be stronger.

I have a gentleman from travellertimers.co.uk that has send me prices on the wood kits and shipping and £250 just in shipping is a lot for me at the moment, but never know what the future holds. We'll see. I still am drawing inspiration from some of the travellers on minormania.com.

Yet again this is in the planning stages, but I really appreciate the help

I know a chap who has a 300BHP supercharged V8 in his Traveller and its fine with standard wood frame at the back- make a seperate box chassis to mount the body on and that will handle the power.

Metal and woodgrain effect will be horrible, it will spoil your car.

Chickenjohn, Thanks for the reply. that helps. i wasn't sure if the wood structurally would hold up. I am looking at a full frame from Fatman fabrications and I'm sure that will be able to handle the power. As for the Faux wood grain, I have seen some really good ones out there, and even contemplating having a specialist do it for me, but I also think there is no replacement for the actual wood that should be on the car. Using the Metal would be a substitute, but nothing like the original. It is just so hard to get anything out here that I can work with.

Yes, the chap lives in Margate- his V8 traveller has appeared in Magazines- this year in Minor Monthly- its an absolutely superb car. Looks almost standard at a glance.

wish i could get that magazine here... i barely get any UK car magazines here at Barnes & Nobles.
