Hunting Minor
Hi all. I have a Morris 1000 Van, (Albert) standard 1098 engine, and when decelerating out on the road, he does a hunting, juddering, kangerooing type thing but if you accelerate, he goes all smooth again. The points and plugs are new and the carb is 1 year old. Any advice will be listened to and acted upon, unless its something like "why dont you get a proper haircut Billy" or stuff like that. Thanks nicely, Billy.

juddering
Unusual, the juddering is normally when pulling not decelerating. Lack of oil in the carb damper would also cause hesitation on acceleration.
Could be anything from loose rear axle to broken engine/gearbox mounts. When you rev the engine when stationary do the revs rise and fall in the normal manner?

Hi, dashpot topped up, checked axle and engine/g/box mounts, all ok. Yes, when I rev it up stationary, all is nice and smooth and responsive. It runs fine, its only when I back off the accelerator on the road that it does the thing it does. Thanks for the advice though chaps. Just thought, this is the first Minor I've owned, do they all do this? Its not absolutley earth shatteringly drastic, but Ive never had a car do this before

Hi, only when decelerating. I think you guys have narrowed it down to something in the engine as I have checked and double checked all the things youve suggested regarding mounts, road springs etc. Maybe I need a Minor owner to drive it and then they would know exactly what its doing rather than going on my description which although I've tried to describe it as best I can, it wont be as good as the real thing. Thanks again folks, much appreciated. Billyis it when decelerating or when the brakes are applied?
Does it do it if you slip into neutral and just let the car slow down without engine braking ?
Moggyminor - problem here is more likely to be ignition timing and/or mixture related. Check if the vacuum advance is working properly - it's when wandering along at low speed when it should be doing it's stuff!
