Bonnet scraping wipers

Post by youngb506 »

Anyone had the problem I've had for ages where the rear lip of the bonnet scrapes the windscreen wipers? I've used different makes of wipers but it's still the same. Could I have tightened the chrome bits from the outside of the car too tightly on to the wheel box forcing the wipers up further than they should be or is it a bonnet adjustment problem? no probs with closing the lid.

It's the wheel boxes that are protruding too far.

Thanks. Does that mean I just undo the nuts a bit or should I fit new rubber gaskets?

Probably need to take them off completely - and see if the correct rubber mounts are fitted on the underside.

This is very normal with the 1098 wiper arms. Try moving the bonnet as far forward as possible on the hinges (but make sure the bonnet catch still works correctly)

yes it is common on 1098`s when the bonnet is up for the wiper arms to touch the back of the bonnet.
but then how often do you drive with the bonnet up in the rain :D

This is caused by the plastic inserts on the inside of the spindles cracked and when tightened from the outside allows the spindle to come too far forward. This has happened to me twice
