Battery size

Post by youngb506 »

Does anyone know the physical size of the original battery for the 1000? There's a shop near me that do black plastic ones that look more original than the modern white ones but the one they list is for the 1956 modle, they say. Mine's an early 1000. Will this fit and work? Apparently it's 9"x5" and 8" high.

That's the right size. One thing to watch out for is which way round it goes. Ideally you want one where the terminals are at the back of the tray and the earth terminal is on the right (looking into the engine bay from the front of the car). So if the car is still positive earth, the battery would look like this from the top:

Code: Select all

---------
| - + |
| |
---------
If the car is negative earth the terminals would be the other way round. If you can't find one that has the right orientation then you'll have to fit the battery with the terminals at the front of the tray, and file notches out of the retaining bar to make sure it can't touch them and start a fire.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.
