Tie Plate renewal ???

I am about to renew both tie plates.Does anyone have any detailed info on how to go about this from start to finish.A friend of mine is going to weld them in, so I am going to cut the old ones out and prepare the new ones ready to weld.Can I do this with the engine in and supported or will I have to remove ? etc

I imagine you will need to take the engine mounting towers off to do this - maybe one at a time - but just support the engine under the sump, no need to remove provided you can get good access otherwise. It will obviously be much easier with the radiator and front panels removed.
