siles rebuild

Post by steve4063 »

right got the complete sill sections albeit in pieces :-?

right the outer undersill piece is already in.
i now have the box section, inner sill and the 2 floor edge sections to put in.

which is the best way to go about this.
i've figured out what goes where but i don't want to weld a piece in only to have to cut it out again.

one thing i haven't cut out the whole piece because
a around the rear seat (4 door) looks well complicated to remove
b its in perfectly good condition there so y remove it so i'll cut the new panel to match not a problem

as far as i can see i will do the floor edge panels add them to the outer undersill and then the box section then th inner sill
unless someone tells me otherwise.

lets just hope it stops raining tom so i can get out there if not i'll be getting my gazebo out i reckon 8)

Sorry I'm not actually being of any help here but could you get some pics of where the bits go? Maybe also get some as you do the job?

I'm doing mine sometime this year and looking at parts in an online catalogue doesn't help at all.

I'm sure there are other folk in a similar position.

Borrowed this from Bull Motif website, hope it helps.
Once you see how the panels fit, its really quite simple.

The sequence as I do it is:
  • Inner sill
    Boxing panel
    Outer undersill
Front and rear floor edge panels

Well done - are you doing this with the car standing on it's wheels - or have you got it over on it's side ?

That was fast going to get a whole sill in in one day! Good going!

BTW, small point, but the Bull Motif diagram is not quite correct, the floor panel should be sandwiched between the flange of the sill inner step and the lip of the outer floor edge panels not resting on top like its shown. But to be honest you might have to fit the floor on top if leaving sills etc intact.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

good to get it done in 1 day wow :o
i thought it was slow ok well done me 8)

not quite sure how i done the dif panels.

i put the out under first as i done that the other day
front floor edge next then the boxing section and then inner sill and finally the rear floor edge panel.

it looks right and solid as i done seam welding all over even the top lip and it looks neat not bad for 2 thin edges hey 8)

got inner wing repair panel to put in and a small patch on the inner dome wing at the bottom.

yes its on its wheels well sort of anyway got it all stripped so its on axle stands and wheel ramps no front suspension as its all off

i didn't brace anything what i did was straticaly place axle stands and jacks around the floor to support what i was cutting out.

i then cut the whole sill section out and welded in the out under sill first to keep it intact.

i measured the door opening across and made sure all the doors fitted correct before fully welding it in.

hopefully on the drivers side i will remember to take some pics for the other request.

took me a while last night in the living room with the panels to figure out what went where kept poppin to the car to check lol

good job my missus is a nice laid back women and loves the moggies too.

Looks like I need a floor edge panel, box plate and outer under sill for mine then.
In places my outer under sill and floor edge panel are one in the same thing where cowboy welders have actually welded straight across the two of them. Its solid but it looks terrible. :(
