Fuel guage

Post by fsk658 »

Just connected the fuel guage on my recent restoration. The fuel guage reads empty when the tank is full and full when the tank is empty. Have changed the wires over at the fuel guage and also at the tank sender but still cant get the fuel guage correct way round any sugestions please

I'm not sure but I think that happens when you have an early sender unit and a late gauge or vice versa...

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Thanks for that. you have just given me an idea, I know its not the correct speedo that came with the car I have some spare speedo's and a sender unit so I may be able just to change the fuel guage when I find the correct combination

Hello FSK,

either get matching sensor and instrument or turn your head around to fill the tank when the needle approaches 3\4 full?

guage

if the fuel tank sender has a nut on the contact then the speedo must be of the bronze faced type.(including the first two years of the 1098cc cars)
If the speedo is black faced then the fuel tank sender unit should have a push on Lucar connection. The guage is NOT polarity conscious so it is no good reversing the leads.
