Find a gasket competition.

Post by Peetee »

On my 1275 Ital lump there is a gasket on the oil pump cover that is leaking. Can anyone help me track down one as i have had no luck with suppliers so far. Also the cover seems to be held with two bolts and two screws. Is this normal?

There is no gasket on the oil pump cover! In fact there is no 'cover' as such - it's just the two parts of the oil pump and yes they are held together by some screws and then finally by the bolts that pass through the pump into the block. There are various shapes/sizes/makes of pumps all with variations on the screw/bolt config.

If you really want the gasket, the try Mr Kelloggs. He makes exceedingly good gaskets. :D :D :D

Proper oil and petrol resistant gasket paper isn't difficult to obtain. I bought a selection of different thicknesses from a seller on eBay.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

There is no gasket on the oil pump cover!
Hmm, interesting. There is definitely something in there - even if it is just goo. I can see goo around the sump gasket too so perhaps some twit has splatted some sealant here, there and everywhere and caused the leak!

But if you put a gasket in there the oil pump clearances will be huge - and the pressure hopeless. Take the pump apart - clean it carefully and put back together - no gasket - but do fill the pump with thick oil and/or vaseline.
