Machine Mart spray gun

Post by 10852sm »

Hi all,

Just bought the Super Pro spray gun from the above, the £33 one, to spray the Morris. Now the second time I come to use it whatever I do I cannot get a continuos feed of paint to come from it. The paint comes in roughly 1 second bursts every other second. Whatever the settings are I cannot get a steaty supply of paint. I think the first timeI used it it was OK but I only sprayed a very smal area in very badlight.
If I turn the air pressure up and the paint feed right up the gun actualy pulses as the paint stops and starts. I have tried taking the cupfrom the gun and putting the feed tube in the paint, no difference.
I then cleaned the gun and tried it with water, exactley the same thing. I put the whole gun under water except the nozzle, same thing, at all settings.
Before I take it back is there any thing I am missing? Is this fault a syptom of a known fault? I am sure the gun is clean and assembled properly. The paint I was using was U-POL U88 thinned about 30%, but as I said the result was the same using water.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Sounds to me like it wasn't cleaned out properly after last use, leaving paint blocking it - but I'm no expert.

There is a plastic seal behing the nozzle and a plastic blanking cap on the end of the needle spring if these are left off then you will have the problems you describe. If you have assembled the gun correctly, (there should be a diagram) then fill the pot with thinners and spray neat and see if the gun clears. Check also your compressor as it might be struggling to deliver a constant 4-5psi that your gun requires. What psi/bar is the compressor set too. If all of this fails check the tiny nozzles on the spray head, you may need to clean these through with some fine wire. If this doesn't work, strip the gun completely, fill a mixing pot with standard thinner and soak it overnight.
Goodluck

Maybe just using far too high pressure ? Try turning it down very low and then slowly increasing.

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies.

I exchanged the gun today for a new one and have spent the evening spraying. The new gun works excelently.

The new gun is identical to the old one, all the same parts are present, the only difference I can see is that the brass "air orientated ring" (Clarke speak for the bit that fits between the nozzle copper gasket and the body, with the spigot that the fan control needle sits in) is a slightly tighter fit in the body than the older gun.

I am just hoping that the next time I use it it works properly!

Thanks again,

Steve
