I'm going with contactless ignition on my new tuned engine because I'm fed up with continually adjusting naff quality points. I will be keeping a spare baseplate with points in the spares kit though.

Ok, I changed the air filter for a standard Mini type one. Something like this;
http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=33968 and it doesn't pink anymore!
The conditions to make it pink are a combination of temperature, timing, compression and mixture. I leaned it off a couple of turns when I took the cone filter off and advanced it as far as the micrometer would go. Still it won't pink. Tomorrow I'll give it a bit more advance and see how far I can go.
Obviously it is going much better now. I guess its a matter of finding the optimal set up for each car. Perhaps big valves and and carb combined with the cone filter was too much for it!
