Changing brake fluid

Post by Dominic »

Hi folks
My next task is to replace the brake fluid. Has anyone any idea how much fluid I'll need? No parts need replacing, just a fluid change, so hopefully no messing about with bleeding the system afterwards!

Thanks in advance

If you are not going to bleed the system, then how do you expect to change the fluid?

I'd go with a litre plus a half to bleed.

Steve, by introducing new fluid, flushing out the old with the new, hopefully no air being drawn in during the procedure.

Thanks Jonathon, appreciated!

Isnt that called bleeding the system?

I thought that referred to bleeding air out.... I could well be mistaken though!

You are bleeding if blood leaks out of you - same with hydraulics. You won't need anything like a litre!!!! Just a new 1/2 litre can of fluid should do it - the system actually holds very little

i bought one of them gunsons pressurised bleeders from halfords normally around £16.

but if you find a friendly staff member and tell him you restore cars in your part time he might give you a trade card and u can get it for £11.

as previously posted by a dif member you have to butcher an old filler cap and put a self tapper in the air hole.

but its brill for getting air out or even doiung a complete change just keep the nipple open until clean fluid comes out.

u use the pressure from a spare tyre and thats what pushes fluid round the system.
