Underseal?

Post by Peetee »

Do I or don't I?
Albert has a great underside and a thick coat of paint. He will be stored under cover and souldn't get a lot of foul weather use. Bearing in mind dirt, grit, mud etc is more likely to fall of shiny paint than it is sticky underseal do I leave him as he is or not?
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

I'd leave as is, and just keep an eye for stone chips (depending on the paint used, they may or may not happen).

I'm about 1/4 of the way through removing the underseal liberally applied by a previous owner on my Midget, and I've yet to uncover anything but surface rust beneath...

I've spent the afternoon taking it off, and was astonished at the size (about 2p size) of the holes it can cover. I'd avoid it.

Yes, agreed, Zinc primer, Chassis black and a coat of waxoyl is all you need.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

coat of waxoyl
The waxoyle I've used in cavaties seems a bit 'wet'. Is there another version for underside? I remember the clear stuff on the underside of VWs is like candle wax.

There is an underseal containing waxoil available. I've used it but don't know if it's any good or not - it's too soon to tell
