rythmic noise

seems to be coming from the front end- drives ok and cant feel any vibrations to speak of

heres the list done so far
new gearbox and clutch last year- all been fine- checked the steady wire while on ramps the other day and isn't too tight
prop shaft UJ's replaced and a load of underseal taken off prop which sorted another vibration
diff replaced
timing checked
carb rebuilt
checked engine mounts all ok
new exhaust
new unleaded head a few months ago has been running fine
had all 4 wheels balanced the other day
seems to be engine related- sort of low rythmic thrumming/wow sound at about 45-55mph in 4th gear -seems to drive fine though
checked in neutral and coasted and prob seems to go

any ideas??

could it be a worn wheel hub bearing? but that would be slow speeds.
may be your engine just does like those speeds?

I had a rythmic 'siren' sound coming from mine. Sounded like gear whine but did it even in neutral.

Oddly it turned out to be the bearings in the alternator.
(and yes, before you 'oldies' start - the dynamo I took off was perfectly fine so it was my fault for upgrading )

What do you mean "OLDIES"?

I get a 'beating' noise from the fan at certain speeds. Could be that - you could try briefly without fan. But check the tyres closely incase one is de-laminating.

I'm referring to the proper 'old school' folk who treat the idea of removing a dynamo with the same disdain as a chap farting loudly in church.

A noisy wheel bearing will start at the same speed every time and continue until you drop below that speed.
