hi, i know this is off topic, but alot of you seem to know what you are on about. How do i go about resetting the ecu on a ford fiesta zetec?
bloody car gone doolally! :lol:

Go to the Ford Dealership... it needs to be plugged into the computer

Bev, I doubt if its the ECU, more like a sensor. As Onne says it'll need to be diagnosed correctly.

If you are a member of any of the roadside rescue services, and the car doesn´t go, they can read some cars out as well.

hi, just spoke to my RAc friend, and he said to take the battery out over night, and that should resset the ECU
I have lost all faith in my roadside people, i was hearing an annoying tapping noise and the man told me it was my exhaust rattling.....only to find out a few months later when i took it to the garage and was told the big end had gone!!! :roll:

i had someone look at the car and they said the earth cable was off the engine ( before big end saga ) so they put it back on and the car started to over rev! even new engine and its still doing it. Wondering now if it was off for a reason when i brought it!!! tut tut

Is it the 1.25 zetec engine? I had one for a while and they have a canny ability to lose oil without burning or dripping it. Mine siezed solid on the motorway 62 miles after I set out and I'd topped the oil up before I left!

Standard reset for an ECU is disconnect the battery for at least 20 minutes but overnight is better but remember the first 200 miles after you reconnect the battery is the ECU relearning the car. Very interesting to drive my 2 litre cavalier after a hard reset :lol:

oh what fun!! what does it do? ( so i am prepared!! ) wondering if it worth fixing old engine. has anyone done a zetec conversion on a moggy, fellas ok with changing engines, but diagnostics is a totally different thing? he is puzzled with the fiesta

actually many people who have the fiesta zetec all seem to have problems especially big ends going...oo err! if i was to ever buy one again it would be a new one!

My 1250 Fiesta had that over-revving problem. I think it's a result of the ECU over-fuelling, with the result that the revs are raised to get more air in. In my case it started after some other work meant the battery was disconnected for the first time in ten years.

Your car probably needs to go to a Ford garage who can check that sensors are functioning correctly and reprogramme the ECU.

In the end I scrapped mine, but it had numerous other issues as well.

I think you'd be better off putting a 1098 in a Fiesta, and then you'd be better off subsituting the rest of the Fiesta around the 1098 for a Morris Minor. Much less trouble and far easier to fix!
