alex_holden wrote:Where were you thinking of staying on the way up? Camp sites, youth hostels, B&Bs, Travelodges, five star luxury hotels? Accommodation at the cheaper end of the scale would make the trip more viable for me.

Is the plan to catch the 18:45 ferry from Gill's Bay to St. Margaret's Hope on Saturday, stay two nights on Orkney, then come back on the 08:00 Monday ferry?

The Kirkwall Youth Hostel on Orkney sounds very nice.
Unfortunately although we have received some 'definites' as yet we have received no PM's with preferences and so cannot proceed. However we would naturally be trying to minimise costs.

We personally have already booked our accomodation on Orkney for Saturday 10th, as this is Show week and vacancies are at a premium. We will be staying with family from then on.

We can supply details of camping etc if required.

You can by all means join us, and would be very welcome. However unless the full trip is completed, you would unfortunately not qualify for any completion certificate etc. Sorry.

Three months and counting. It sounds like a long time, take it from me, it's not.

We don't need a co-driver do we? My dad was going to do the JOGLE with me but he didn't sound very enthusiastic when I told him about the LEO.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

As the LEO Run is intended as more of a leisurely drive than the JOGLE (now apparently cancelled) a co-driver shouldn't really be necessary.

It gets nicer the further north you go (no offence Scunthorpe :P)

My favourite stretch of road north of the border is heading up to Inverness up the side of Loch Ness. Stunning scenery!

hmm - well I can promise that the train ride from B'ham to Scunthorpe (via Sheffield) is certainly not going to make it into the tourist guide of Britain!!! I forgot that we had so many disused and derelict factories and run down industrial estates but I got a strong reminder yesterday morning en-route to collect Claudia!
However - all 3 trains were on time and we got to Scunthorpe 4 minutes early :D :o :D!

I have a photo somewhere of my then brand new 44 ton rig on the side of Loch Ness. I'd just finished eatin' my breakfast in one of cafe's and though it would make a stunning picture. I'll see if I can find it.

No its no good Bill, I've used up my holiday getting the car ready for the MOT I just have one week left for Mrs F. I'm afraid I can't give you her allocation and she has declined my kind offer of a nice trip in the Morris!

However, on another subject I will soon be writing to Mrs Judge!
