new petrol tanks

Post by FrankM83 »

HI,
just got a new larger capacity petrol tank from ESM and on teh instructions it says that the eccentric breather in the filler pipe has the gap to the top, can anyone explain to me what exactly is the breather? and what do I have to do or look for to make the gap to the top? Thanks

Why not ask ESM? They're very helpful people.

when you fill up, your tank is not "empty" it is actually full of air. as you are pouring fuel in, the air has to come out!

The filler should be a pipe within a pipe. As your filling the tank, the air comes out of the pipe in a pipe. At least I think that's what happens

The B'ham tank has a breather pipe running across the top and back into the filler neck in order to reduce blow back when filling. Unfortunately I believe this single pipe is insufficient as when filling the tank the incoming fuel can enter both the tank and breather at the same time so preventing a transfer/movement of air. We have eliminated this problem with our pattented design as fitted to the same base tank.
