Fitting the windscreen.

Post by RogerRust »

I have a clean car with a new rubber to fit.

Looking at the job it looks easiest to fit the rubber to the screen then offer the unit up and use the string method to fit the rubber lip to the metal.

The manual assumes that the rubber is already fitted to the car, but I have not found it easy to fit the new rubber direct onto the car.

Can anyone give me some advice?

Do it your way Roger but fit it at the top first so you can get the roof lining tucked in neatly before you fit it fully.

Put the rubber in hot water first to soften it. Use plenty of washing up liquid as a lube. Do not use string that is too thin as it will cut into the rubber. Good luck.

Roger , I'd string the screen ,overlapping it at the top . Have someone on the outside to apply 'slight pressure to the area you are working on ,this makes life much easier, as does a warmed up rubber. I would not use washing up liquid as it is very high in salt, the last thing you want to trap in next to your new paint, use white grease, as its a better lubricant and can be left to provide a good barrier against the weather. When fitting the chrome fillet ,warm this also and use the correct fitting tool, not a screwdriver.
