Servo Rebuild?

Post by Packedup »

Just got a s/h servo :)

It's fin bodder :(

I noticed a bit of dampness and paint lifting where the cylinder bolts to the casing, so have spent the last hour or so trying to take it apart. The diaphragm is perfect, but the inside of the case is damp and rusty so fluid's been getting in there. The small diaphragm that lives on a valvey thing on the top of the cylinder is hard but intact, but the inside of the valvey bit is rusty as hell, as is the plate and pin that go on top.

I can't seem to get the piston out the cylinder - Is there some knack or other to it?

And is it worth anything in this condition? It cost me £30, but buyer beware and all that. I'm just thinking of selling it on as is and either buying a brand new one, or seeing if I find anything tested and working (or sold as good with warranty) at Beaulieu next month...

Sounds hopeless to me - and now you know the condition you can't really sell it on like that - ' not fit for purpose' etc. I would go back to the seller and demand money back!

I'd be looking to sell it literally for spares/ repair, stating exactly what I've found wrong with it. I know that'd net me a lot less than I paid, but I'd rather get something for it than bin it!

I'm hoping to get to Beaulieu in May, I might get lucky and find the parts to rebuild this one for sensible money (or even better, find a fully working one for reasonable cash) if I can't shift it before then.

To be fair to the seller, it was described as just taken out of service, but ought to be inspected. Unless the seller had checked it to the extent I have (and he clearly didn't as the lock tabs etc were all untouched) there's no way he could have known, and how many people really do go to those lengths given the time involved, for a few quid (OK, I know I do, but maybe I need to get out more! ;) )?
