As you say - the float 'chambre' indeed... pretentious, moi?!
Struggling to get to grips with the language here, I'm quite pleased with that slip!
Yes I'll do the air filter too.

Have topped up dashpot as suggested, thanks for the guidance re the correct level.
Have removed oil filter bowl to discover a metal, presumably re-usable filter, not at all sludged up as I'd expected it to be. Could it just be that the oil being dirty generally was enough to make the oil filter light come on?
Shall now replace filter & refilling with oil - hoping the orange light won't show..

The oil filter light stays lit despite having given the filter a good clean and introduced fresh oil to the engine.. And perhaps more worrying, or perhaps not - I don't know, the oil pressure light never comes on at all. Can anyone give me some guidance here as to what might be happening? Could it just be faulty sensors?
Some comments/ thoughts would be really appreciated..

Hmmm - the oil fliter is certainly not re-usable. Test the oil PRESSURE light by taking the wire off the little pressure switch and holding it to earth - if light now comes on then the switch is faulty - if still not on then the bulb gas gone (or a wire is broken/disconnected). The oil filter light - well, since you have replaced the filter and oil, if it's still on then must assume it is faulty. No other car has this warning light - so just disconnect it. thjis all started as 'hot start' problem - is it ok now ?

No I still have the 'hot start' problem - I'm thinking it must be something in the carb / float chamber area that I'm reluctant to take apart myself. I'm going to get someone more competent than myself to have a look.
You say the oil filter isn't reusable, but I've actually reinstalled the one I found in the car, having cleaned it with petrol. Will this be okay for now? Shall look at the switches as you suggest.
