Mini... in a van? :o

Post by Matt »

Well my mini definately goes in my transit....

If you are going to try this heres some advice.

1)... Dont use a transit jack handle with a split pin in it to wind the winch, the split pin will shear and you will need to find another way to operate the winch

2)... Make sure your BRAND NEW winch doesnt break half way through the job!!! (and yes i was rated high enough)

3)... If Kalkat is involved make sure there is a ready supply of cider!

4)... dont choose the hottest weekend of the year so far to try this out!

The ramps are 13ft scaff board with some angle iron bolted to the bottom (see the angle iron frame leaning against the van). I think these frames came from a prefab concrete garage.

This is where the winch, and the handle failed at the same time :s

and theres a bit of spare room!

The more observant of you might have noticed the bonnet was removed half way through. Thats because i was trying to wwork out how to get as much in the van as possible without damaging Xena, and still being safe to drive the van. The bonnets good, but the rest of the front is poo! (have a new front which is good except the bonnet!) so the bonnet came off and she is going to have some wood resting over her wings so we can fit more stuff in!

I think im going to make a thinner partition and then a clubby should fit fairly easily too (having removed the bumpers). Im wondering if a minor *might* fit too!

no he is referring to an earlier scene on a race track I think? when the bus has some ramps hanging off the back and the 3 minis drive up the ramps while the bus is still going. :D

Get the ramps bolted on the van, get the Mini on a tow rope. Once up to speed jam on the transit brakes. Simple!

I suppose if you already have the transit anyway then it's a heck of a lot cheaper and easier than hiring and using trailers to move a non runner to the de-rust place or paint shop

Hehe!!

Well long story, but it means the mini can be kept! If it didn't fit it wouldnt be able to stay on the road.

Buying the transit and the bits for the ramp was cheaper than hiring a trailer :s
