Lack of power on hills.

When on the flat no problems. But start going up hill and the power tails off. It seems to run ok, no missing, popping or banging.
Could it be plugs, points problem or is it down to timing being slightly out.

My guess is timing, try advancing it until you hear pinking, then back off a few clicks on the adjuster.

If timing adjustment doesn't do it then try a compression test.

I thought this was 'flying' along on the SW5 camshaft Ian ? Have you just got used to it - or has there been a falling off in performance ? In which case - start by checking the valve clearances, the exhausts may have started to 'recess' and closed up the gaps. I would have thought the Riley drums would act like giant flywheels - and whizzed the car up hills using the stored energy from the last down hill run!

No there seems to have been a fall of in performance. Thats why I wandered if it could be plugs and points. Haven't changed them for a while.
Willie, Compression is good as I took head off and reground valves a couple of months back.
Think I may well put it on a rolling road and have LPG set up at same time.

That's why I suggested a compression test, you could have valve trouble.
