Windscreen rubber chrome.

Post by rosiethemorris »

My 1960 saloon is off the road at the moment undergoing restoration.
The windscreen rubber was replaced a couple of years ago, but the two part chrome insert was not fitted back in.

Does anyone know if it is possible to fit the insert into the rubber without having to take the whole lot out again?

Thanks guys.

Paul.

no problem Paul. the chrome is fitted after the screen and rubber are fitted to the car. just open the gap out were the chrome goes, and feed it in as you go around.

There is an inserting tool that makes this much easier to do, as just opening the gap is often easier said than done.

Sorry guys, shouldn't a 1960 Minor have the metal insert.

The picture posted by Cam shows the late 1000 screen finisher (1098).
According to the workshop manual, the screen finisher on early 1000's ('56-'62) needs to be fitted to the rubber before fitment.
I think only most split screen & late 1000 finishers can be fitted after screen fitment.

We stand corrected!! I did not know that having never owned an early 1000. Actually it DOES state in the original post that it is 2 piece. Slap on wrist to myself, Brixtonmorris and Kevin for not noticing!!

Thanks for your replies, guys!

Looks like I'll have to take the wholelot out and start again. Sorry, I forgot to mention that the car is an early 1000...it has a single windscreen, but the insert is metal, but this is in two pieces, the joins in the middle above and below the windscreens being covered by two small metal covers.

Thanks again for your imput.

Paul.
