axle diff ratio problem

hi all
i have just taken a diff out off a mogey back axle number is 10/39=??? i have looked on a diff in my shed is 9/38 =4.22 does any one know thanks neil

Not quite sure what you're asking, but 9:38 IS 4.22, if that's it :D

So 10/39 is 3.9:1 diff!

It wasn't, to the Mog, anyway. Somebody's bound to know which cars had them, as lots of BMC cars had the same type of diff.

At a guess, Wolseley 1500 perhaps? That 3.7:1 diff from a Riley 1.5 that I posted about a few days ago sold for £81.

mowoo bta 1224 10/39
& how can i find out if shafts have been hardend any numbers on them??? thanks again neil

Dunno really - look for any 'blueing' - and lack of wear marks on the splines!

There was no blueing on my hardened shafts but the splines were 'as
new'.

Yes its a Midget diff as both the Wolseley and Riley had the 3.7 or 11/41 as confirmed by the 1500 owners club spares person and plastic orange.

Most of the 1500 midgets have the 3.9 too ;) although the last 3/4 years of prioduction used the 3.7
