noisey gearbox

Hello all
I am a new owner of a morris minor but very keen,i have loved the car for some years but never found the right one for the right price, i now have one.
Any way recently a wineing like noise comes from the gearbox a bit rattly at times (its hard to describe) a friend at work thinks it may be the thrust bearing, my main question is does anybody no of a reliable mechanic in the midlands? i live right by the morris minor center in Oldbury so some were around there would be great.There are loads of places but ide rather go on recomendation to some were that nows about moggys.

First step - check and top up the oil in the gearbox!
