I'm suffering from a condition without a cure !

Thanks to a fellow list (and someone I regard as a new friend) the autobox I have been desperate for to convert my Minor is now safely back home.
I'd like to make a public thank you to "e-minor" (Bill) for bringing it down from Scotland and saving me the nearly 700 mile round trip to collect.
Only problem is that talking to Bill it's made me realise I'm suffering for a conditon that affects certain Minor enthusiasts called LCV'itis.
I'm suffering from the "van" strain rather than the "pick-up" affliction.
Looks like the Ital engine and now the autobox will now end up in a van idc

Good news though is Bill has a strong lead to several vans that might suit my needs ie needing 100% restoration.

Don't worry Paul, there is a cure. First take out a convertible on a hot summers day, with the roof down. Then repeat the process, this time with a van or pick-up. Easy. (Only joking Russ

Must admit to the same condition, except mine is pick up related. I've now got a pick up, its sat in a relatives garage, but I can't do anything to it, as i'm having surgery on my spine next week

. So it will be at least a couple of months before i can stuck into it.

don't worry - it's not terminal, and for a lot of people it wears off soon after you've bought a badly rotted LCV...
The cure is to buy a roadworthy saloon for less money than the rotted LCV and to drive off into the sunset. ;-)

One of my other conditions is "eyes bigger than head".
There are lots of things I want but simply just cann't cope with anymore due to (proper) medical conditons.
Rather than spending what energy I have (I can spend weeks at a time doing little more than being in bed often sleeping 18 hours at a time) working on various projects I've decided to concentrate on just one - a Minor van.
The idea is if I galvanize chassis and cab and then try and source a firbeglass back body hopefully I'd have a vehicle that will outlast me with nothing other than routine maintenance.
Next thing is getting the energy and motivation to sell the mountains of parts and vehicle I've already aquired as part of this "life decluttering" so I can concentrate on a van.
Hopefully the first to go will be a CJ-5 Jeep - ex Iraq army and currently basket case as I was intending fitting a diesel engine to replace the previous 8-10 mpg petrol engine.
With that gone I'd then have a spare lock-up garage to store a dismantled van whilst I restore parts at home.
Problem I've found in the past is a total, "body off", restoration take up a LOT of space - far more then you realise !

Last time it moved (over 5 years ago) was after I parked it up from taking it for a short drive !
Needs nothing major doing to it as no rust / rot with being Nato reserve stock - just checking over and registering in UK.
Will make a nice Minor recovery vehicle for towing any van project to and from the lock-up

paul I've got ME (have you and I discussed this before? my memory is just appalling) and I've found that having a van, and doing a nice, slow, really thorough restoration on it is one of the best therapies available

mind you I don't do my own welding or panelbeating or large-area paint spraying.... but I can do little fiddly bits and I can flare my own brake pipes *proud - and not going to stop feeling like a kid on Christmas day about that for a long long time*

Also your local branch is the Potteries, no? so you have ooodles of extremely expert, and van-literate, advice and help on hand, you lucky lucky man

life-decluttering is extremely cool, too

Today the postman has brought the LCV register magazines and the CD of LCV items.
If anyone else is suffering from LCV' itus then I can recommend joining the register as the magazine is first class.
I know how an addict must feel after getting a "fix" - I'm on a high and looking forward to reading everyting the postman has delivered
