Wiper Arm Removal

Dont laugh!

Silly question I know but do they just 'drift/pull' off the spindles?

I've finally got some new springs for mine (sourced from a reclining chair) and need to get em off to fit.

If they're the same type as mine, there's a little clip you have to push back while you're pulling, and they might be on quite tight.

hiya dunketh,

mine were a right pig to get off. As alex says there is a little clip which is supposed

to release them so they can be pulled straight up off the splines.

The clip is on the round sockety bit of the wiper arm, directly under the part where the arm sticks out of. If you'd like I could send you a scan of the relevant pic from the workshop manual.

I was gonna 'brute force attack' it but glad I didn't now!

Should be able to find the clip easy enough.

I'm stuck driving a brand new 2007 clio at the moment for work - its a pile of sh.

Mind out the bonnet doesn't blow up on you - seems they are famous for that, but Renault won't take any responsibility. You may need to lever the arms off with a large blade screwdriver - if you do - use a penny between the spindle base and the blade to prevent any damage. New arms don't cost a fortune anyway!

That was the previous model. The new one has a redesigned safety catch but they're claiming there was nothing wrong with the old one...

I seem to recall some (but maybe not all?) wiper rams having that little srpingy clip that once somehow levered out the way allows the arm to simply slide off. But I'm sure a chunky screwdriver between arm and spindle nut would shift even that

Had a bonnet fly up on a Jetta once (hated that car). A loud bang followed by the dark coutnry lane getting even darker, apart from some slits at the bottom of the screen.

Slowing from *ahem* speeds when the only view of teh road is through a dozen or so 1/3" by 5" slots is most... Interesting.

Ford got it right with the mk1 and 2 fiestas.

I left my XR2 bonnet unlatched and following some 'spririted' driving the bonnet started to 'fly' on the air like a plane wing. Of course being front hinged it didn't matter.
