Van rear measurments ?

I'm developing an idea.
Can anyone tell me the internal size of of a van rear ?
Doesn't need to be accurate.
In fact is there a link to any period type adverts which include line drawings of the van back with the measurments ?

hi paul,

floor of cargo area is five feet long and four foot nine wide (not including wheel arches). It's about a metre high.

what's your Master Plan?

Thanks - bigger than I expected.
No real master plan other than the more I drool over them the more I want a van.
I have a small dinghy and an electric bike. A van you allow me to easilly carry both - which I'd struggle with my saloon.

The autobox is one of the inspirations for wanting a van in that I could build to my requirements.
Nothing contriversial - 1275 engine (I've already a 40,000 mile Ital A+ unit) with autobox, front disc brakes, galvanized chassis and cab, fibreglass back (if they become available), modern seats, servo etc.
The generous offer of another lister has been taken up so they are collecting on my behalf and I'll be meeting them on their way down to "south" at later date.
This is a great help as just recently I've been spending up to 18 hours a day in bed (due continuing illness - not lazyness !) and would have has difficulty driving to collect anyway.

That's interesting - I though we we limited to the new ones being offered idc via the Morris Minor centre at Birmingham and made by Nordisk of Denmark.

Any pointers to other manufactures and rough idea of cost ?
I don't expect them to be cheap but there again what price would 100% rot and rust free original metal back body be worth - probably substancialy more.

GRP backs are not new they have been with us since 1992!! Current price to order I would guess now at over £2K!!!

Hi again paul,

If you need to work out the widest and tallest thing you can get into a van then you'll need to bear in mind that the aperture created by opening the rear doors of a van is smaller than the full inside dimensions - this is because the roof and sides curve down and in as they approach the door area (if you see what I mean!).

Have just popped out to the garage and measured the aperture of my van - it's three foot nine wide and three foot two high. That's without the doors on, so the hinges will take an inch or so off the width.
