The London International Classic Car Show 24th & 25th Fe

Post by Kevin »

http://www.classicshows.org/ally%20pally.htm

We will be represent the club at this hastily arranged show the weekend after next, unfortunatly the stand only has room for one vehicle but our theme is camping, lets hope the props do the job, and you are welome to have a chat, hopefull ythings have improved for this show as Andrew Greenwood has taken over at short notice and he is an excellent show organisor, so it should be better than the last couple of fiascos organised by ****.
Please note the show for March 17th - 18th The London Classic Car and Bike Show has been cancelled inspite of the posters and advertising for the show so dont get the 2 dates mixed up..
Cheers

I have been a couple of times, most recently last year, and am glad to see there is a new organiser this year as the ones I have been to before were terrible.

I left a 4 year gap between going thinking that it might have improved but was really disappointed by last years show. The 'autojumble' consisted mainly of overpriced motoring 'memorabilia', copper arthritis bangles and dusters :( . I spent just half an hour there and had to pay £12 for the privilege.

If anyone goes on the saturday could they post a review so that I can decide whether or not it is worth going on sunday.

Well I will be there on the Sunday, I couldnt agree more that in the last few years it had slowly gone downhill when it used to be a really good show when previously organised by Greenwoods and hopefully they will have managed to turn it around, but they have taken it over at very short notice from Emap so I expect there will be a few hitches.
I know this will sound biased but last year our stand with 2 pickups was definatly one of the best stands if not the best and we waited until the end for the results and nothing happened so we chased up the organisors who`s reply was we are not giving out prizes for best stands etc, so we asked why was that not mentioned in the entry forms and they said they did not need to as they dont give out prizes, well they did the previous years.
Anyway we had decided that if they were going to do a show this year that for the effort put in we were unlikely to attend, but at the last minute Greenwoods said they were taking over and if you have been to a Greenwoods show before you will know why we are happy to attend.
Louise normally the club have a privilege price ticket scheme but I have not seen anything this time probably down to the late show takeover.
Cheers

Hi all. This is really my first post/reply. I'll be at the show tomorrow & will definately call over to the stand.
Rogerrust would hope to bump into you & maybe others to pick some brainpower.
Our blog is

Sorry hope this puts the link in properly. Unfortunately my son (Rich of Richminor) won't be there, & he's not best pleased, but this happens to be one of the weekends I'm here in the UK.

So until tomorrow then.

We welcome everyone who`s going to pop over and have a chat, I will only be there based on camping at the sea side which is a change as of Wednesday due to problems with the props :-?
Cheers

Stand looked good, but the show was not very inspiring. I picked up a few bits and pieces I was after. Only stayed till 2 pm.

Just want to say a quick 'thank you' to Rosie for making me feel welcome. Unfortunately didn't get to meet any others, but who knows what the future holds.

Agree in part with Rogerrust, but as I come from Ireland, with no really organised shows or large autojumbles I was quite pleased with the day & picked up a few items I needed.

It also wet my appite for Beaulieu when Richminor & myself will come over by car to stock up, it was very hard this weekend to have a ready wallet but restricted by airline baggage rules. No so in May!!

All the best for tomorrow. When I get a chance I'll upload the photographs I took to either photobucket, or some to here if people are interested.

Glad to see the traveller in the auction went to an Irish home, maybe it was one of the ones originally assembled in Dublin????

Part of the problem was that it was hastily taken over after the original organisors pulled out, still it was far better then in the last few years and hopefully will be even better in future as Greenwood shows are generally very good, the biggest difference is that this year there was a proper autojumble with the toll stands on the outer edge of the halls, which is a great improvement, and although we didnt win a prize for the stand we got some runners up tickets for the Ace Cafe :D

Ally Pally

Post by stag36587 »

A welcome relief that Andrew Greenwood is back as organiser. The last few years have been disappointing. This year, a much better "feel" all round although I'd like there to be even more cars in the hall (as there were in the early days). I manahed to pick up an original workshop manual in excellent condition and a rear number plate light in chrome for very good prices indeed so I came away a happy man.. Incidentally , don't know if you noticed baut a further show at Ally Pally appearas to be planned for October.

Nice to see the Rose Taupe Traveller on the stand, though I would love to have got underneath a saloon to compare my planned repairs to a finished example!

Yes we did know but with the Rally season soon to be under way all the way through to that time of year I dont know if we can deal with that one as well as our summer rally, our committee can only stretch so far, like most branches we dont get much help from the branch membership who are quite good at evaporating when help is required.

Come to a few Rallys and then you will have :D or get along to a branch meet, we dont mind people looking at our undersides
Cheers
