Smart!
We've got one of these in Southampton. It's a halve scale replica beside the site of the inaugral flight of the Spittie; Eastleigh airport. It's gift from Mercedes who are also sited beside the same roundabout.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.
Is is me, or is there an irony in Mercedes sponsoring a Spitfire
Irony maybe. But it could also be seen as one-upmanship. Making best of the fact that, 60 years after the war, there still isn't a memorial in such a fitting place.
"Wow check-out the spittie!"
"Yeah, financed by the Germans too."
"Never?" [incredulous]
Nevertheless. my view is "Thanks Jerry!"

Don't do much for road safety though
Having said that, I think it looks great and will have to pop back and take some better photo's when the workmen have gone
.........just thought of a twice size black Series MM on a roundabout
Good idea Bill, would be nice to see OJO up there on a plinth
Alex............ it's on the A1045, ( Thornaby Road ) next time you're heading North on the A19, come off at the A174, keep left into Thornaby and follow the road to the traffic light, then turn right and you'll see it on the first roundabout.. beleive it or not it's near the ' Spitfire ' pub
Must admit that it's not a very good shot of it because the workemen where still there and the road partly closed, looks spectacular as you go round the roundabout, I pass it most days so I'll keep my camera handy
I think I know the one. My main memory of that roundabout is a mad driver coming right up behind me on my bike and sounding his horn (I guess he wasn't happy that I was using the right hand lane to turn right, thus preventing him overtaking me). The road before you get to that roundabout had a very short cycle path parallel to the road, which you couldn't get to from the road without dismounting and pushing the bike up a kerb and over a grass verge (hopefully they've improved it now). Since it only took about a minute to cycle the full length of the path I just stayed on the road instead. That really annoyed some drivers, to see a cyclist using the road when there was a cycle path on the other side of the verge.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.
I can't remember where I was (maybe the A23 in South London) in the last few days but I came to a roundabout with a Huge Chicken on it! it must have been 20ft tall and was on a pole too! In Crawley there is a roundabout with a big football on it which is right by the footie club, kind of makes sence....
