Still not so sure about the gold colour for the central "under grille" part!

When I stripped down the paint from this part the last colour to be stripped was silver/ grey.

This could mean two things,

1 it has been stripped before and recoated in grey

2 the true original colour is grey.

Since the other dash parts are recoated without being completely stripped, I might assume with a certain degree of certainty that the central part is actually and originally silver/grey

Could it be that some cars actually had the silver grey paint originally?

Was any part of the steering column or steering wheel ever painted originally in gold as well?

Thanks Judge, It's quite evident now that there has been both gold and grey centre dash panels, but how could we establish which cars had what?

Scott wrote (concourse forum):

"My UK assembled '48 has this piece in a dull silver finish whereas my Australian assembled '50 has this in the gold.
Both had the original finish when I bought the cars (the '50 still has)."

Anyone knows more?

markattard wrote:Thanks Onne, It seems like you're the history book on the series II, mine is a 1953 so it should have the gold ish look (anyway I found this colour when stripping...the paint of course..) Please could you confirm the grey paint on the central dash console? Les says all three parts are gold?

Les, I shall use a toyota ref no for the gold colour, it looks pretty much like the original, it's a metallic spray, I dont know if the original was as metallic though!!
Hi.markattard I don't think it is metallic, but you can get a spray can of the gold from ESM Morris Minors . All theeparts of mine were sprayed gold. One problem I have is the gear knob, it hasn't got one do you know if yours is original ? If it is can you post a picture?
I think its the same as the MM!

I found this on the BMC manual, it gives an idea of the knob shape and embossed diagram on top, showing gear position

Here's the outcome of the first gold colour finish coat:

actually it looks darker than the pic and very similar to the original colour, I recommend it

I would also like to see a pic of the internal side of the original metal passenger side window (803 have only one there anyway!!) Was it just sprayed metal or vinyl covered as in the 1000's?
