Nice. How long were the exposures on those pictures?

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.
I was simplifying and generalising, but this is one reason for using as fast a shutter speed as possible.alex_holden wrote:........ and the stars turning into little arcs due to the Earth's rotation,.......
Combining this with a small aperture, minimises the risk of a blurred image.RogerRust wrote:My experiance is that the moon is a very bright object so needs a suprisingly short exposure

Exposure about 90 sec. It looked funny a tiny digital camara on a big slick proffesional tripod to avoid shake. The trick is to find location with no artifical lights. We don't have streetlights but a couple times a car drove passed and wrecked it.

This message board is like a family - you can't choose the other members!! But remember engine oil is thicker than water.
Which reminds me of one particular night time shoot at a 'steam up' when a friend of mine walked up to an engine in front of a whole line of us, cameras on tripods, shutters open!!!!!!!! Amazing the diversity of the english languageRogerRust wrote:We don't have streetlights but a couple times a car drove passed and wrecked it.

Did you see it?
Interesting this topic
Most of all this jargen is above me..exposure time etc; etc; I just really started taking a lot of photo's when I bought my first digi camera a few years ago. Took me a while to set it up, also my newer on last year, I just set them on auto-everything
The flash go's off when needed, but I find sometimes during daylight at a show it flashes when I'm taking photo's... is this wrong ??
I don't think I do too bad with my photo's but have learnt something new while reading this topic..
Lovely photo's them Roger, I'm going to have a go in the dark without the flash and see what happens...well, when it stops raining
Here's one of my photo's of last nights moon...not very good at all
maybe you could tell me where I went wrong..

Alex, do you want the whole massive photo ? I did crop it down just to show the moon or would the one shown do ?

Re: Did you see it?
Ah right, I thought you'd scaled it down rather than cropped it because of all the black space around it. Does your camera have a fixed wide-angle lens? I think you could probably do with greater magnification so that the moon takes up more of the frame. I have heard of people attaching their camera to a cheap telescope to avoid the cost of an SLR camera and telephoto lens, but I haven't tried it myself...mal wrote:Alex, do you want the whole massive photo ? Yes, there is life North of Watford, aint there Bill
Alex...
Not sure, regarding your question of wide-angled lens, I just point it and take photo's
I wasn't really prepared for the eclipse, it was a last minute dash as I wasn't sure we would see it up here and I didn't have time to find my tripod to steady it, I did crop it and scale it down but don't seem to have been very sucessful... maybe next time
